Life Cycles

Birth

We celebrate births with a Brit Milah for boys and a Simchat Bat for girls. For boys who have their circumcisions in the hospital, we also do naming ceremonies for boys. Rabbi Meszler is happy to do either of these ceremonies either in our synagogue during Shabbat on a Friday night or in the home. If you are thinking of joining Temple Sinai, we are happy to provide these services to you for free! It is one of our ways of saying, “Welcome to the community.” Just be in touch with Rabbi Meszler to make arrangements, and mazel tov.

B'nai Mitzvah

At Temple Sinai, the process of becoming a Bar/Bat/Simchat Mitzvah includes leading the congregation in a Shabbat service, reading and/or chanting a portion of the Torah and Haftarah, giving a D’var Torah (speech); and performing a Tzedakah project.  Becoming a Bar/Bat/Simchat Mitzvah at Temple Sinai means that the family has made a commitment to our heritage and to our congregation and that the student has attended Religious School and is familiar with our Jewish traditions.

Bar/Bat/Simchat Mitzvah candidates must be enrolled students in good standing and have prior Religious School experience as deemed adequate by the Rabbi.  It is strongly recommended that students have at least five years Jewish schooling prior to Bar/Bat/Simchat Mitzvah.

For more information, please refer to our Simcha Handbook.

Weddings

Rabbi Meszler and Cantor Khitrik are available to perform Jewish weddings for members and children of members of Temple Sinai. We celebrate with the beautiful traditions of a ketubah (artistic marriage agreement) and chuppah (wedding canopy). For couples where one member is Jewish and another is of a different faith background, please see Rabbi Meszler for details. We are also committed to complete equality and welcome gay marriage and blessings in our synagogue.

Funerals

Rabbi Meszler and Cantor Khitrik are available for funerals for the immediate family of members of Temple Sinai and can work with any funeral home. Please contact the funeral home of your choice first and have them call the clergy and Temple for arrangements. Our sanctuary is available as well, and we are adjacent to Sharon Memorial Park.
