Adult Civil Rights Trip 2023

Come on a trip South to tour Atlanta, GA and Montgomery, AL with Kiana Pierre-Louis, Esq. and Rabbi Joseph Meszler. Learn and then build upon the historic legacy of Black-Jewish Alliance. Our tentative schedule includes the Civil and Human Rights Museum, the King graves, the historical Ebenezer Baptist Church, The Temple of Atlanta, the Rosa Parks Library and Museum, the Legacy Museum, the National Memorial for Peace and Justice… and Dreamland BBQ. This four-day trip will be a joint effort of Temple Sinai and Sharon’s Sharon Racial Equity Alliance, with 25 spaces initially reserved for both groups, for a total of 50. Space is limited to one bus. The cost of the trip will cover flights, charter bus transportation, hotels, breakfasts, and all entrance fees. This trip is for adults (college age and older) only.

Kiana Pierre-Louis, Esq. is an Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion at Northeastern School of Law. Rabbi Joseph Meszler is the rabbi of Temple Sinai in Sharon.


Itinerary
Rabbi Meszler and Kiana Pierre-Louis will lead this trip with an itinerary that includes:

  • Sunday, June 11th
    • Early flight from Boston to Atlanta
    • Center for Civil Rights and Human Rights
  • Monday, June 12th
    • MLK Complex, including the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church and the Kings’ graves
    • The Temple in Atlanta
    • Drive from Atlanta to Montgomery by charter bus
    • Rosa Parks Library and Museum in Montgomery
  • Tuesday, June 13th
    • Southern Poverty Law Center
    • Dexter Ave Church
    • Dexter Parsonage Museum
  • Wednesday, June 14th
    • Legacy Museum
    • National Memorial for Peace and Justice
    • Return to Atlanta for an evening flight back to Boston

Cost/Deposit
The cost of the trip is $1,800 per person. A deposit of $500 per person is required to secure a spot.
 This price is based on double occupancy hotel rooms.  The price will be higher for single occupancy rooms. The cost of the trip includes flights, hotels, bus transport, and admissions to all museums and centers. Participants will be responsible for the cost of meals and tips, plus any additional purchases. (Each hotel provides breakfast.)


Registration Deadline
The deadline to register is Wednesday, February 15, 2023.

PLEASE NOTE: THE ADULT CIVIL RIGHTS TRIP IS FOR MEMBERS OF TEMPLE SINAI AND THE SHARON RACIAL EQUITY ALLIANCE. BECAUSE OF THE LIMITED SPACE, ANYONE WHO IS NOT AN ACTIVE MEMBERS OF EITHER GROUP SHOULD NOT SIGN UP FOR THE TIME BEING.  WE WILL KEEP YOU UPDATED.
